Our Climate Commitment and Aspiration

Our Climate Commitment and Aspiration

We increasingly strive to make a positive contribution to tackle climate change by 2045 in Scotland and 2050 throughout the rest of the UK, and believe that delivering sustainable outcomes for both current and future generations will make our business stronger.

We aspire to a connected approach in sustainable design embracing influencing factors such as our people, our buildings and their social and economic impact on the environment and embrace the principles of the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

Sustainable and Regenerative Architecture Design

Sustainable and Regenerative Architecture Design

Our buildings seek to minimise their environmental impact through the pursuit and use of environmental indicators such as BREEAM, LEED and CSH (through the national technical standards). We are accredited CSH Assessors and can advise on how best to achieve technical standard ratings.

Through collaboration with our in-house M&E team we are able to provide a fully integrated joined up approach to our architecture and apply integrated design thinking using BIM (Building Information Modelling).

Signatory of the RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge

DB3 are proud to be signatories of the RIBA’s 2030 Climate Challenge, which provides a framework to delivering net zero carbon buildings by setting targets around:

  • operational energy
  • embodied carbon
  • potable water use

with additional health and wellbeing targets.

The RIBA challenge is based on the latest recommendations from the Green Construction board and is aligned with other build environment professional bodies. The 2030 Climate Challenge sets outs performance outcome targets that our architects at DB3 are aiming towards.

Designs with Climate in Mind

Designs with Climate in Mind

We are passionate about and enjoy what we do and at every opportunity we will challenge ourselves and the conventional view that sustainable design can be boring, complex, unwieldy, and expensive. We strive to deliver beautiful and elegant buildings that are economic to build and easy to use.

We strive to incorporate and integrate sustainability into our architecture from the very earliest concepts through design and into construction.

Making a Positive Impact on the World

Making a Positive Impact on the World

We believe we understand the dynamic balance and tensions created between our building, the site, the climate and the social context and aim to capture the positive conditions of daylight ventilation and passive solar gain.

We continually look at ways to minimise the impact of our buildings over the entire life cycle by analysing and reducing wherever possible the energy consumed and carbon emitted during construction and when in use. We carefully review and specify robust, renewable and natural materials wherever possible.
