Live: Helensburgh Waterfront Development

DB3 are appointed to provide Argyll and Bute Council with design support for a new leisure centre on the Helensburgh Waterfront Development, RIBA Stages 3 to 6.

The ambitious project will see us working in partnership with civil, structural and geotechnical engineers to deliver the complex and technical project. This will involve designing and building a new leisure centre featuring a 25 metre main pool with 6 lanes, Studio Pool with moveable floor, studios and gyms.

The project also includes flood defences and additional environmental improvements. These enhancements to the current site include better lighting, public open spaces and a walkway around the pier, a prominent feature of the town.

24 February 2022 Formation 3D took these stunning drone footage of the site at the end of 2021 showing progress made on site.
26 November 2021 Children from Rhu Primary – a local primary school to Helensburgh – braved Storm Arwen for a very special visit to the site today. Our DB3 Sports and Leisure team presented the design of the building and their role of the Architect to the children. Contractor Heron Bros as well as the Structural Engineer and QS also presented during the visit. We were delighted to see that the children were in particularly interested in the sustainable aspects of the building. Although slightly disappointed by the lack of climbing wall, the students were very enthusiastic about the building overall. A second school visit is taking place on the 3rd of December.

5 August 2021 Helensburgh Waterfront coming along nicely, with Natural stone facade and glass on the externals in place.
04 May 2021 Glulam frame within the pool hall looking good and external works are also coming together with some great wee spaces designed by Hirsts. Helensburgh’s getting something a wee bit special... still a long way to go...

In their article Argyll and Bute Council confirm that work continues to move forward following the announcement from the Scottish Government that construction sites can remain open under the stricter Covid guidelines.

29 September 2020 Autumnal feel on site at Helensburgh this morning but it’s good to see the Piling and rick armour works progress on site.
10 August 2020 Preparatory work commences, with the construction site having been set up to be Covid-19 compliant with one way site entrances and exits.
