140 Years: Leading the Way in Sustainability

As custodians of the built environment, our 140-year journey has been one of change, and with the growing awareness of environmental impact and the pressing issue of climate change we have emerged as leaders in championing sustainability.

In today’s context, where the construction industry constitutes over 40% of the UK’s carbon footprint, our commitment to addressing this challenge has never been more steadfast. We recognise that architects and engineers play a pivotal role in shaping the world, and we are determined to make that impact a positive force for change.

Future-Forward Sustainability

At the heart of our commitment lies our extensive Net Zero Consultancy, a testament to our dedication to creating projects that not only meet the needs of today but also safeguard the future. Highlighting six key categories, our net zero service is broken down into: Carbon, Efficiency, Wellbeing, Performance, Compliance and Passivhaus (also referred to as Passive House). You can find more information about each category by viewing our brochure here.

Our team has spent many years delivering low-carbon residential schemes, including passive houses, offices and schools, as well as energy-efficient projects in the sports and leisure, industrial and manufacturing, retail, conservation and heritage sectors.

Pioneering Change

We embrace the power of collaboration and take pride in our participation in the RIBA Climate Challenge, an initiative that brings together professionals in the architectural and construction industry to drive significant change. The 2030 Climate Challenge outlines a set of targets for practices to adopt, focusing on reducing operational energy, embodied carbon and potable water.

Our commitment to sustainability is reflected in our actions throughout every stage of a project. From the inception of a project at the drawing board to its realisation on the construction site, we actively integrate eco-friendly materials, energy-efficient systems and environmentally responsible methodologies. Our architects and engineers are equipped with the knowledge and skills to seamlessly blend aesthetic vision with ecological responsibility.

Revitalising Spaces

Revitalising Spaces

Retrofit projects are at the core of our commitment to sustainability, standing as a cornerstone in our advocacy efforts. Recognising the unique challenges posed by the existing built environment, we view retrofitting as a transformative opportunity to breathe new life into structures while significantly reducing their carbon footprint. Our active promotion of retrofit projects reflects our dedication to inspiring a paradigm shift in the industry, urging stakeholders to embrace the power of revitalising existing spaces rather than solely focusing on new constructions.

We take a proactive stance by engaging in governmental lobbying efforts, recognising that policy changes and regulations play a pivotal role in driving large-scale transformation. Actively participating in discussions and advocating for sustainable practices at the policy level, we strive to influence systemic change that resonates throughout the industry.

As leaders in championing sustainability, we recognise the urgency of the climate crisis and the pivotal role our industry plays in either exacerbating or mitigating its effects. Our journey, spanning more than a century, is a testament to our adaptability and resilience. Today, as we continue to innovate and evolve, we are committed to leaving a legacy of sustainable practices that will echo through the ages, inspiring future generations of architects and engineers to prioritise the health of our planet in their creations.
