Delivering Safer Buildings
Efficiency East Midlands’ new £800 million Fire Safety and Building Remediation Framework creates a significant opportunity to improve the safety and long term performance of public sector buildings across the UK.
Covering major remediation works, consultancy services and fire doors, the four year framework reflects the scale of work still required across the sector. It also reinforces the need for contractors to establish capable, coordinated teams.
Remediation Involves the Whole Building
Remediation Involves the Whole Building
Remediation is often described as cladding replacement. In practice, delivery requires a much broader understanding of the building.
Opening up an existing façade can expose incomplete records, construction that differs from the original drawings and interfaces that were not fully considered during the building’s initial design. Fire barriers, compartmentation, insulation, structure, windows and MEP services may all be affected by the proposed solution.
Each decision must be considered in the context of the wider building. A change intended to resolve one issue can affect ventilation, thermal performance, moisture management, fire stopping or maintenance access elsewhere.
This makes early coordination between the contractor, designers and supply chain critical.

An Integrated Approach
At DB3, we can provide an integrated multidisciplinary offer including Architecture, Lead Designer services, Principal Designer Building Regulations and CDM, MEP Engineering, BIM, design coordination and technical delivery.
We bring extensive experience of complex fire safety, external wall and higher-risk building (HRB) remediation, including our involvement in a major programme encompassing more than 60 HRBs, with multiple Gateway 2 applications and extensive experience of the design, coordination, compliance and Golden Thread requirements that sit behind successful remediation projects.
For contractors considering bids for the Midlands or National remediation lots, we would be very happy to discuss how DB3 can support your tender and, ultimately, the delivery of projects secured through the framework.
