Introducing Charlotte Scaife:
Q&A with our new Business Development Manager
We are delighted to welcome Charlotte Scaife to DB3, who is taking on the role as our Business Development Manager. To get to know her better, we’ve had a quick round of Q&A and here is what we found out about her.
Tell us more about your journey that lead to DB3?
I have worked in business support roles in the construction industry for over 15 years, across a range of disciplines (architecture, planning, quantity surveying, D&B fit-out). My first industry role was as Team Secretary at GLR Architects in Bradford in 2004, after that I was hooked. Interestingly, through acquisition, GLR is now part of DB3 which completes the circle nicely!
Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us.
I don’t like chocolate or coffee, that usually upsets a few people, particularly the chocolate bit!
What is your biggest achievement either professionally or personally?
What is your biggest achievement either professionally or personally?
Performing at the Crypt Factor 2019 with Sarah Wales and Samantha Jevons. We didn’t win but we put on a good show (in our opinion!). It is a brilliant event to be involved with and the support for each act was overwhelming, no competition just cheering each other on. It demonstrates the support that people in the industry have for each other generally.
What is your personal Mantra?
“What have you done today to make you feel proud?” This line from the song Proud by M People singer Heather Small, has really resonated with me to become my moto in life.
What are your key takeaways so far from current Covid situation?
COVID has highlighted the spirit of the industry and the determination that we have to ensure that we continue with development and are not thrown into another recession scenario where construction projects halt. Everyone has been so adaptable and found innovative ways to maintain contact with colleagues, friends and family, in one of the weirdest situations we have ever experienced. People have been very supportive of each other which is brilliant. Sadly, on the down side, it has shown that lots of people are very selfish when it comes to a crisis (I still don’t understand the toilet roll situation!).
What three words would you use to describe yourself?
Friendly, happy & loyal.
What do you like most about being a Business Development Manager?
What do you like most about being a Business Development Manager?
Meeting interesting people and finding out about them, what they do and how we can help each other in the industry. I love putting great teams together, making sure the right consultants are working on a project. Therefore, it’s important for me to meet different people and businesses to understand their strengths so that when an opportunity arises we can put our best foot forward.
What is your favourite film?
This is too difficult to answer… too many things pop into my head. Anything with Julia Roberts…
If you could, who would you pick as a mentor?
Helen Whitehead at Vinci Construction (she will hate that I have said that). I’ve always enjoyed Helen’s company and admire how she works. She gives sound advice and is successful in what she does. We both have a similar career pattern in that we started in admin roles and are now BD. She’s a good person to know!
What is your guilty pleasure?
Pizza and champagne
Many thanks Charlotte, we’ve really enjoyed chatting with you and look forward to working with you. Welcome to the DB3 Architecture team!
