Marking 140 years with the launch of DB3 Employee Ownership Trust
We are delighted to commence our 140 year anniversary celebrations with the big announcement that we are now majority owned by our new Employee Ownership Trust (EOT).
We believe that this business model is the best way to bring our company forward as we look ahead to the future and our next 140 years!
Adopting an employee-owned business model allows for many advantages including succession within the business.
Find out more about what Employee Ownership Trust will mean for our clients, our staff and DB3’s future in our blog below.
“I have felt for some years now that employee ownership would provide a positive future for the firm and am delighted to be able to pass on this fantastic legacy to many of those who have helped shape the company.”

What does EOT mean for DB3?
It means that the majority share of our Company is held in Trust on behalf of all eligible employees. The remaining shares are held by DB3 Group Chairman Alistair Hamilton and DB3 Group CEO Nathan McNamara.
An additional Trust Board has been created to allow all shareholders to have their say. Wendy Pawsey, Group Finance Manager and Hemal Patel, Head of Architecture in DB3’s Manchester studio have been elected by staff as their representatives on the Board. The two directors of DB3 on the trust board are Group Chairman Alistair Hamilton and Group CEO Nathan McNamara. We will also invite an independent member as our fifth board member.

Our clients can be reassured that with our executive board remaining the same the transition to our new business model will not result in disruption to our day to day dealings with them.
This new model represents the next chapter of our customer first approach and also reflects one of our core values which is ‘Nurturing Relationships’. Our architects and engineers work incredibly closely with our clients, and with all staff now having a direct input into DB3 business decision making our client’s interests will be recognised at new levels.
The EOT’s benefits of future proofing our business and securing succession planning also means that our clients know they are in safe hands with DB3 for many years to come.
Reflecting our Values
Reflecting our Values
Our values are centred around our ESG objectives as we put our team at the forefront of the day-to-day business, leading design and championing sustainability in the built environment. Allowing employees to have more of a voice and a seat at the table will ensure that the right decisions are made for future growth of the business and for positive impact on the world we live in.
EOT – a Growing Trend
EOT – a Growing Trend
This trust model of employee ownership has been promoted since 2012 by the UK Government with a record growth seen in 2021. The 2022 figures show that over 1,030 companies in the UK are using this business model and DB3 Group is proud to count amongst them now.
It is now widely recognised as the fastest growing form of business ownership in the UK with Professional Services and Construction being the top two sectors opting for the model.
“Our team are what makes us so successful, and after two strong years of growth we are pleased to be able to make this change and recognise the contribution that every employee makes to our success. Aside from setting up the trust, the team and board remain the same. It will be business as usual with our focus around the ambition to grow, develop new services and support our clients for years to come.”
