A Hub for Sporting Excellence
In the heart of Bradford, the £6m Wyke Community Sports Village stands as a testament to visionary innovation in sports facility design. As the Design Team Lead, our mission was clear: to craft a space that seamlessly blends cutting-edge features with the needs of a diverse and vibrant community.
The facility seamlessly integrates a range of amenities to cater to various athletic pursuits, age groups, and abilities. It includes a 1.7km cycle track, a full-sized floodlit 3G football pitch, three grass pitches, and a pavilion equipped with community areas for up to 250 individuals.
The facility stands as a testament to the enduring role of sports in fostering community and providing a platform for athletic excellence. Inclusivity was at the heart of our efforts in designing the sports village. We incorporated accessible changing rooms and restrooms, ensured level access throughout the facility, and designed the space to accommodate adapted cycles.

Built on the grounds of a previous Manor School, the Wyke Community Sports Village wasn’t without its challenges. Initially approved in 2016, the plans included the refurbishment of a pre-existing sports hall that had survived the school’s demolition. However, fate had other plans when a devastating fire razed the hall to the ground in June 2017. Undaunted, we took this opportunity to create a fresh and holistic scheme, yielding greater benefits for the community in the long run.

Through close collaboration with key stakeholders, including Bradford Council, Sport England, British Cycling, The Premier League, The FA, and the Government’s Football Foundation, we orchestrated the seamless implementation of the project. This collaboration allowed us to custom-tailor the sports village to meet the precise needs and preferences of the local community. Additionally, our partnerships provided invaluable guidance on adhering to best practices, optimising design solutions, and formulating operational strategies, ensuring that the sports village not only met but exceeded industry standards.

The Wyke Community Sports Village goes beyond a sports facility. It embodies sustainability and ecological harmony. We didn’t merely create a sports complex; we forged an environment where nature and sports seamlessly coexist. Our commitment to environmental stewardship shines through the inclusion of dedicated natural areas and a central wooded section within the cycle track. This distinctive fusion of sports and the environment results in a visually striking and environmentally aware design, setting a fresh benchmark for sports facilities.
