Promoting Wellbeing: A 140-Year Legacy of Holistic Design, Community Engagement and Regeneration

At DB3, we take pride in our rich history of promoting wellbeing, a legacy that spans 140 years. From our inception, we’ve placed people at the heart of our designs, recognising the crucial role that the built environment plays in enhancing the quality of life. In the modern era, we’ve evolved our commitment to promoting wellbeing, embracing a holistic approach that goes beyond traditional boundaries.

As we look ahead, our commitment to promoting wellbeing remains resolute. We aspire to be pioneers in shaping environments that not only stand the test of time but also positively impact the lives of those who inhabit them. At DB3, the journey towards enhancing wellbeing is an enduring narrative, and we look forward to the chapters yet to unfold in our pursuit of creating spaces that inspire, uplift and contribute to a flourishing future.

Start Well, Live Well, Age Well

Start Well, Live Well, Age Well

One of our key initiatives is actively supporting the pivot to active wellbeing scheme, a concept centred around community engagement, reimagining leisure facilities, maximising green spaces and fostering movement in the daily lives of residents.

We believe in frequent and meaningful community engagement to co-design services, transforming leisure facilities into community hubs and maximising the use of green and blue spaces. The goal is simple yet profound – to create environments that allow individuals to start well, live well and age well. The concept is designed to bring people together, with a special focus on addressing inequalities and ensuring inclusivity at every step.

Regeneration for Wellbeing

Regeneration for Wellbeing

Active involvement in regeneration projects across the UK underscores our commitment to enhancing the wellbeing of communities. Take, for instance, our collaboration with Thurrock Council on the Broxburn Housing Estate regeneration. By infusing underutilised spaces with ‘infill’ buildings and improving landscapes, we aim to provide not just affordable homes but also an enriched living experience that complements and enhances the existing community.

Further illustrating our impact, the Llys Cadwyn project significantly contributed to Pontypridd winning the esteemed title of Wales Champion Town at this year’s Let’s Celebrate Towns Awards. During the construction phase of Llys Cadwyn over 240 local individuals experienced the positive effects of the scheme, being involved in employment and training opportunities. Notably, more than 40% of the project’s expenditures were channelled within a 20-mile radius of the site, underscoring the project’s unwavering dedication to bolstering and sustaining local economies.

Transformative Healthcare Environments

Transformative Healthcare Environments

In our commitment to promoting wellbeing in healthcare, our approach is centred around prioritising the healing and overall wellness of patients. We believe that thoughtfully designed spaces play a crucial role in enhancing the healing process and positively impacting the health and wellbeing of everyone involved. Our unwavering dedication to making a meaningful impact while maintaining a high quality is evident in our creation of healthcare environments that prioritise the needs and experiences of patients, healthcare professionals and trainees alike.

A shining example of our commitment is showcased in our work at the cutting-edge healthcare training facility, the Haldane Simulation Centre. This transformative project focused on reshaping a two-storey teaching block to introduce innovative spaces tailored to healthcare training. The facility now boasts six simulation suites, including immersive rooms, control rooms, and adjoining classrooms, as well as a mock operating theatre with scrub and anaesthetic rooms. The Haldane Simulation Centre is the largest simulation-based teaching facility of its kind in Europe, reflecting our dedication to advancing healthcare education and wellbeing.

As we move forward, our commitment to promoting wellbeing remains unwavering. In the coming year, we are proud to extend our support to Martin House, a charity providing family-led hospice care free-of-charge for children with life-limiting illnesses. Our partnership with Martin House reflects our belief in giving back to the community and ensuring that everyone, regardless of their circumstances, has the opportunity to experience the best possible quality of life.
