Tour de DB3’s Recent Cycling Projects
With the Tour de France commencing, we thought it was the perfect time to put DB3 Cycling in the spotlight. We had a chat with our Sports and Leisure team to find out about the current trends in cycling as well as the latest projects our team are working on with British Cycling.
Stage 1 – DB3’s Grand Départs
Over the years, there has been an acceleration in the cycling projects that our DB3 Sports and Leisure architects are working on and include some of the following tracks:
Aldershot Cycling Facilities – 1.1km
Birmingham Queensbridge Cycling Centre – 0.5km
Bristol Cycling Centre – 1km
Cornwall Cycle Hub – 1.8km
Hereford Closed Road Circuit – 1km
Moredon Sports Hub – 1.2km
Wyke Community Sport Village – 1.5km
South Bucks Country Park – 1.6km
Those 9.8km of recent DB3 cycling tracks alone are the equivalent to over 39 laps around the Izu Velodrome at the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympics Games!
Stage 2 – Bike Boom steered by Covid Cyclists
Stage 2 – Bike Boom steered by Covid Cyclists
With the pandemic nudging people into the great outdoors, this had a significant effect on the interest in cycling. In the UK, the ‘bike boom’ has translated into a 45% increase in bike sales, which has added an additional £1 billion of sales for retailers in the past year alone. Urban design’s response has seen more cycling routes being built in city centres, however the sports and leisure sector are also taking steps to facilitating this trend.
Stage 3 – New Wave of Cycling with British Cycling
Stage 3 – New Wave of Cycling with British Cycling
Our DB3 Sports and Leisure team act as architectural consultants for British Cycling, with whom, in recognition of these cycling trends, we are developing exciting new schemes to meet this growing demand. Incorporating all stages from learning to ride a bike right through to club level race pros, future schemes are focusing around day-out cycling destinations for families, mountain bikers, racers, BMX and so on and our experts are aiding in making these a reality.
Stage 4 - Riding into Cornwall’s Future
Stage 4 - Riding into Cornwall’s Future
The Cornwall Cycling Hub is an exciting project we are currently working on, which British Cycling has dubbed as being “the best cycling facility to date”. This hub will be fully accessible, featuring a family friendly, active environment that enables users of all abilities to enjoy and thrive around the activities on offer.
Aiming to attract visitors from further afield as much as the local community, the site’s existing ecology and biodiversity is strengthened and enhanced by careful landscaping design. The Cycling hub includes multifunctional open greenspace for family picnics, casual viewing of the activities and for use in a range of fitness based pursuits, such as the trim trail and potential outdoor classes linked to the pavilion gym facility. The hub also boasts safe and secure areas for younger users to play and explore the tracks, skills features and other facilities under easy supervision.
Needless to say, passion for cycling runs high here at DB3 and we wish ‘Bonne chance’ to all the teams racing Tour de France this year.
Wyke Community Sports Village
Wyke Community Sports Village
This former school site is being developed into a multipurpose community sports hub incorporating extensive cycling provision and several outdoor pitches served by a new central changing pavilion with modern, accessible facilities and social spaces. The pavilion sits in a commanding position allowing fantastic views across the closed road circuit race track and the wider site activities.
We’ll be in touch shortly.
